On February 11, Quicheay arrived at Jasmine's home on Springdale Road in Mobile. At first, everything seemed normal. Jasmine was helping a friend. Life continued as usual. Jasmine attended classes, Ace played in the living room, and Quicheay settled in.

But after about two weeks, Jasmine began to notice changes. Quicheay was not acting like someone grateful for help. She was not looking for work. Instead, she complained constantly. Jasmine described it as "a lot of complaining" and "her energy was just off." Something in the house felt heavy. Tension was building, and Jasmine could not put her finger on why.

Trying to Set Boundaries

By Monday morning, February 24, Jasmine had reached her limit. She needed to get herself and Ace ready for school. She needed calm and order. Before starting their day, she sat Quicheay down and calmly explained that it was time for her to find another place to stay.

Jasmine expected disappointment or awkwardness. She expected maybe some upset words. She did not expect what happened next.

As Jasmine prepared breakfast, she heard the microwave running in the kitchen. She assumed Quicheay was making something to eat. Moments later, Quicheay appeared holding a cup. By now, Jasmine's grandfather had woken up because of the noise. Quicheay snapped.

She shouted, "I am not going nowhere! What you gonna do? You gonna put me out? You gonna make me leave?"

Jasmine knew things were getting out of control. She called 911. As she spoke to emergency services, Quicheay cursed at her grandfather and forced her way deeper into the house. Then she threw the contents of the cup directly at Jasmine's face.

The chemical burned immediately. Jasmine was blinded in one eye. It ate through her skin. Burns spread from her face down to her neck, her back, her arms, and her right leg. Her clothes and the couch were damaged. The pain was unbearable. Her mother later suspected the chemical could have been Drano or another dangerous substance heated in the microwave.

Even in the pain, Jasmine saw something more terrifying. Quicheay pulled out a gun from her pocket. A struggle began. Jasmine's grandfather grabbed the gun, but Quicheay was not done. She picked up broken glass and started stabbing at Jasmine's hands.

Finding Strength

Despite the burns and the attacks, Jasmine managed to hold her ground. She restrained Quicheay, refusing to let her go. Quicheay begged, "Let me go, let me go." Jasmine held firm. "No, I am not letting you go. You trippin, you need to chill out," she said. 

The police arrived soon after. Quicheay Williams was arrested and taken to Mobile Metro Jail on a thirty thousand dollar bond. Jasmine was rushed to the hospital. Her injuries were severe. The chemical burns reached as deep as her fat tissue. She needed multiple surgeries. Her eyesight was damaged. Her son Ace had to watch his mother endure unimaginable pain.

From her hospital bed, Jasmine spoke with remarkable clarity. She admitted her feelings were hurt, but she was not angry. "I still do care about her," she said. "It is crazy, you know, because she did me bad. But it is not in my heart to hate."
